# Actions and usage

> What counts as an action, how tool actions are metered, and the limits that keep your plan predictable.

## What an action is

An action is one completed piece of work. That could be a drafted reply, an answered lead, or an executed tool action. Every action is metered.

Each AI employee includes 300 actions per month. Beyond that, extra actions are \$0.15 each, and only if you allow overage with your spend cap.

## Tool actions count as two

A tool action, such as creating a HubSpot contact or booking a calendar slot, counts as **2 metered actions**:

<Steps>
  <Step title="The AI proposes it">
    Preparing the action and putting it in your approvals queue counts as 1 action.
  </Step>

  <Step title="You approve and it executes">
    The approved execution counts as 1 more action.
  </Step>
</Steps>

So a single approved tool action uses 2 of your 300 included actions.

## Channel limits

Alongside your monthly action allowance, each surface has a daily limit that keeps usage predictable and safe:

| Surface         | Daily limit                           |
| --------------- | ------------------------------------- |
| In-app chat     | 150 user messages per company per day |
| Gmail native    | 20 drafts per day                     |
| Forwarded email | 40 per day                            |

## Your spend cap

You set a spend cap. It gates **overage only**. Your 300 included actions never pause, even if you hit the cap. The cap simply decides whether the employee is allowed to spend past what is included. Read more in [Staying in control](/control/staying-in-control).

<Note>
  Your first month's 300 included actions are your trial, so you can see real work before you commit.
